Once you hit your senior year, it just flies by. It feels like just yesterday I was pulling up to school in my shitty blue Elantra. It’s unreal that tomorrow, I’ll be leaving school in my Outback, and in 3 short months, I’ll be in Wilmington at college.

Yep, off to University of North Carolina at Wilmington in August. I’m really excited to be living at the beach. I also found a fellow car nerd for my roommate, so I couldn't be happier.

I grew up 10 minutes from NYC in NJ in the mid 80’s. I was running around NYC with fake ID at age 16. Nobody really IDed anybody. I could go to a store in the Village at age 16 and tell the guy at the counter, “I would like a bumper of Heineken, some chips and Bambu rolling papers, oh hey, can you open that beer for a brother?” And nobody would bat an eyelash.

I have definitely embraced technology. It just lends a bit of perspective to have been around when modern gadgets didn’t exist. But I’m also not one of those people who enjoys lists of what the younger generation has never seen. While I remember the LP, I’ve never seen a wax cylinder. Times change, and one’s existence is not cheapened by not knowing a time before microwave ovens and GPS.

Formula Society of Automotive Engineers, think formula 1 on a college level. Highly reccomend trying it out if you are college bound. It is an international event where over 120 teams participate. Right now I am at the Michigan International Speedway.

The point of the competition is that you are making a product that you would be trying to sell like a kit car meant for track days. Having a business oriented person in charge of organizing cost reports and doing presentations can earn a team a substantial amount of points. You want to convince the judges to invest in your team and feel confident that if they gave you money you would provide a tested and proven product.
